As the power of the Ancient Greek goddesses is as solid as today’s women, a progressive new generation is reimagining Coco Chanel’s all-time favourite fashion trademark. Pearls are often associated with being old fashioned or stiff. However, in our opinion, that grandma element is exactly what makes pearls the most underrated piece of jewellery of our time.
Pearls never truly go out of style, but in 2021 they’ve made a comeback – thanks to season 4 of The Crown featuring the most influential ’80s fashion icon; Princess Diana. Belgian jewellery designer Karolin Van Loon has given her own twist to this trend by combining her signature agate geodes with South Sea pearls; known for its subtle satin shine and soft color.
Her latest collection Mythos is a lyrical jewellery collection based on Greek myths. The collection was inspired by the book Mythos by Stephen Fry. He brings the stories of the ancient Greeks to life and links them to contemporary society.
Karolin Van Loon was inspired by the storylines and characters, the layering and depth of Fry’s book. Her fascination led to designing her first pearl-incorporated collection – of which each jewel is named after a Greek goddess and pays homage to her story.
Karolin van Loon is known for her sharp designs that respect the beauty of nature and its natural shapes. Combining her original pieces with yet another blessing from Mother Nature (pearls), the designer created state of the art pieces that are truly timeless. In other words; These statement pieces are definitely not just for your grandmother.
